Introduction
Akagera is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, including large mammals such as elephants, buffaloes, black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, elands, zebras, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles; without forgetting to mention graceful Impalas, playful monkeys which abound in the park.
It also boasts a healthy population of predators, including lions, leopards, and hyenas. The park is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 520 bird species recorded, including African fish eagles, shoebills, herons, and ibises.

Depending on the arrival time and your place of origin, you will find our designated tour guide waiting for you at Kigali International Airport. He will drive you to the hotel in the city center. The transfer will take approximately 20 minutes from the airport to the hotel if there is no traffic jam in the city.

After breakfast, you will start your day with a short Kigali city tour to see the beautiful, clean, and most secure country in Africa, which boasts to be the country of a thousand hills. Â You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to witness and pay tribute to people who lost their lives during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, which took a million lives. It is a place of somber reflection but also a center of education for humanity and peace.
After you visit the genocide memorial, embark on a breathtakingly scenic and educative drive to Akagera National Park. This is the best opportunity to learn more about Rwanda’s ways of living, farming, cattle keeping, socio-economic life of Rwandans. You will have to stop at designated areas for a coffee break and lunch before you proceed to the park.
Upon arrival at the park, check in at the park reception, then head to the hotel to relax and acclimatize with the park environment before your afternoon game viewing and evening boat ride. Take some time to settle and enjoy the surroundings.
After a restful afternoon, your driver guide will take you to Lake Ihema, where you will meet the boat captain to guide you through the lake as you will start to spot hippos, crocodiles, water birds, and many more animals that you may see while drinking water. After this exhilarating experience, your guide will take you back to your designated accommodation for a restful night.
Start early with another game drive to maximize your wildlife sightings. Your experienced guide will take you to prime viewing areas where you can search for elusive predators and other wildlife. You will take different loops, both on the lakeshore road and mountain road to see and marvel at the rich wildlife that Akagera has to offer. This allows you to maximize your chances of spotting animals that you would hardly see if you chose a single road. Check-in at Karenge bush camp for a relaxing bush night.
Begin your last day with a final game drive in the northern plains of Akagera National Park, focusing on areas of the park you haven’t explored yet. Keep your camera ready for any last-minute wildlife sightings and memorable moments. Drive back to Kigali with undying memories of this beautiful park which gave you a true feeling of African bush.
