Introduction
Gorilla trekking is an awe-inspiring adventure that allows you to immerse yourself in the
natural habitat of some of the world’s most remarkable creatures: the mountain gorillas.
This experience takes you deep into the dense forests of Central Africa, where you’ll
have the rare opportunity to observe these gentle giants up close in their native
environment.
Imagine stepping into the lush greenery of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park
surrounded by towering trees and the sounds of the wilderness. With an experienced
guide leading the way, you’ll embark on a trek through the rugged terrain, navigating
winding paths and dense vegetation in search of a gorilla family.
After breakfast, you will meet your guide, who will give you a summary of the next two days’ adventure. Your journey from Kigali to Kinigi-Volcanoes National Park outskirts will take you between 2.5-3 hours depending on the traffic. This will be a great way to marvel at the picturesque mountains, mesmerizing landscapes, vegetation, and people; as you witness the beauty that this country is blessed with and the true name of the “land of a thousand hills”.
In Kinigi, start your exploration by visiting the Ibyiwacu Culture Village. This is a community-based socio-enterprise created to help the former poachers and community living in the vicinity of the Volcanoes National Park to showcase the Rwandan traditional living, King’s palace replica, traditional medicine, and traditional dances. The time you will spend in this place will leave you astonished by how rich Rwandan tradition is.
Visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus which offers a meaningful and immersive experience for visitors who are passionate about wildlife conservation, sustainable tourism, and making a positive impact on the planet. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a wildlife advocate, or simply curious about the fascinating world of gorillas, the campus provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature and contribute to a
brighter future for endangered species. This center allows you to learn about the gorilla’s life, conservation, research, and community engagement to protect these magnificent, endangered creatures. The videos and virtual reality played at the center give you a glimpse of what gorilla trekking looks like in real life before your visiting day.
After this activity, you will drive to the hotel for lunch and afternoon relax at the
designated hotel. You will spend the rest of the day getting acquainted with the volcanic
region.
After breakfast, at 6:30 a.m.; your assigned guide will meet you at the hotel to drive to the park’s headquarters. Before the adventure kicks off, a pre-trek briefing at the park headquarters sets the stage. Park rangers provide essential information on gorilla behavior, safety guidelines, and the significance of conservation efforts. This informative session not only prepares you for the trek but also fosters a deep appreciation for the
importance of protecting these majestic animals and their habitats.
Each trekking group is assigned to a specific family, and as you approach, you’ll witness these remarkable creatures in their natural habitat. Spend a precious hour observing their behaviors, interactions, and daily routines, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
After the awe-inspiring encounter, the return trek provides time for reflection. You’ll trace your steps back through the forest, savoring the moments and contemplating the significance of this unique experience. The guide will drive you to a nearby restaurant for lunch before you drive back to Kigali, either at your designated hotel or airport. This marks the end of your trip.
