Early in the morning, as early as 4:30 a.m., meet your designated tour guide (French or English speaking, depending on your wish). Together, you will start the journey that
takes you through scenic countryside, offering glimpses of rural life and beautiful
landscapes along the way. Your knowledgeable guide will take you through Rwanda’s
general lifestyle, answering key questions you may have and sometimes stopping at
points of interest along the route.
You will join other hikers on a guided hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb. The hike typically
starts early in the morning, and you’ll be accompanied by experienced guides who are
knowledgeable about the area and its history. The hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb can vary
in difficulty depending on your fitness level and the weather conditions. Some parts of
the trail may be steep and muddy, so wearing sturdy hiking boots and bringing along
trekking sticks can be helpful.
Along the way to Dian Fossey’s tomb, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Volcanoes National Park, which is home to lush rainforests,
volcanic peaks, and diverse wildlife. Keep an eye out for mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, and various bird species.
The hike typically culminates at Dian Fossey’s tomb, where you can pay your respects
to this pioneering conservationist. Her tomb is located near the research center she
established and offers a tranquil setting amidst the forest.
While visiting Dian Fossey’s tomb, it’s important to be respectful of the surroundings and
follow any guidelines provided by your guides. This includes refraining from touching or
disturbing any wildlife you may encounter and leaving no trace of your visit.
After the trek, you will drive back to Kigali. This will mark the end of your journey.
